Our signature weed control and fertilization plan

HealthyLawn™ is our original, innovative turf building and weed preventative program that works year-round to give you a beautiful, lawn. The program consists of seven applications throughout the year, delivering lawn care in Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina.

One: Prepare

In this application we will apply both a foliar pre and postemergent herbicides to control existing weeds and keep new ones from developing. We will also apply a complete foliar fertilizer and a carbon-based food source.

Two: Prevent

In this application we will apply a low analysis, controlled release, complete granular fertilizer that contains preemergent, as well as meals to feed the turfgrass plant and soil flora. Herbicide will be applied as needed.

Three: Restore

In this application we will apply the last of the preemergent to help prevent summer annual grassy weeds. We will also continue feeding the soil with another complete foliar fertilizer and carbon based food source to feed the soil flora.

Four: Regulate

In this application we will continue feeding the soil. We apply a complete foliar fertilizer and carbon-based food source to feed the soil flora. A postemergent herbicide will be applied as needed (spot treatment), to control existing weeds.

Five: Rebuild

In this application, we will nourish the soil by using a complete foliar fertilizer along with a carbon-based food source for the soil's flora. We will also use a postemergent herbicide, as needed, to control any existing weeds.

Six: Revive

In this application we will apply a foliar fertilizer, along with essential amino acids (Humic & Fulvic). This application also helps oxygenate the turfgrass plant’s root system. An  herbicide will be applied  to control existing weeds.

Seven: Prepare

In this application we will apply a low analysis, controlled release, complete granular fertilizer that also contains meals and carbon food sources for the plant and soil flora. No  herbicides are used  because of the aeration and seeding process.

great soil= great lawn

Most lawn care companies treat the symptoms of poor soil. This means they put down lots of nitrogen to green up your lawn, and they spray a lot of herbicides to kill the weeds. But there’s a better way. By focusing on the health of your soil, we can reduce the need for fertilizer and herbicides over time. Better for your lawn, better for the environment.

A cross section of earth, showing the R horizon. This is a gray, hardrock section.

R Horizon (bedrock)

Otherwise known as bedrock, this is the lowest layer. It can be from 6 to 60 feet below the topsoil. It’s characterized by unbreakable materials that are tightly bound together.

Another section on top of the hardrock, this one is sandy in color.

C Horizon (subsurface)

The C horizon is a subsurface layer of soil that consists of weathered rock, unconsolidated floodplain sediments, and loose sands with lower organic content.

Three layers of soil in a cross section, with a reddish clay layer on top, a sandy layer below it, and a layer of rock on the bottom.

B Horizon (organic subsurface)

A subsurface horizon with decreased organic matter and an increase in clay. Clay is frequently made up of iron and aluminum-based compounds. Clay tends to be dense, inhibiting adequate drainage, and can result in standing surface water.

A cross section of soil showing four of the layers of a typical soil horizon.

A Horizon (topsoil)

The uppermost layer of soil the A horizon is typically darker in color due to decomposing organic matter, also referred to as “humus”. This is the layer that is critical to the health of your lawn, and is typically lost in the home building process.

O Horizon (top layer)

The topmost layer of soil that is composed of organic matter, also referred to as plant litter. The upper part of this layer often has pieces of undecomposed plant matter. This is the layer where turfgrass grows.

your topsoil is critical to the health of your lawn.

This is the most important layer for your lawn. When homes are built the land is graded, which results in the loss of the topsoil layer. Then the property is either seeded or sodded, which means the grass doesn’t have much to work with. Other lawn care companies solve for this by applying a ton of fertilizer and herbicides, at Canopy we focus on restoring your soil so your lawn can be sustainable for years to come.
