What kind of lawn mowers do you use?
At Canopy we use walk behind mowers, stand on mowers, as well as push mowers to mow our customer’s properties. We use the right mower for the job, many times smaller areas do not permit the larger mowers access, this is when we use the smaller push mowers.
Do you come on the weekends?
We do our best to not work on your lawn and landscape on the weekends, but sometimes we will have to visit your property on a Saturday, based on weather or scheduling. We try to allow you to enjoy your lawn as much as possible on the weekends, also we like to hang out with our family and friends on the weekends ourselves!
Why do you bill monthly?
For a couple reasons, one, it makes it easier for you to budget (rather than per visit). Second, you’re paying one flat, affordable rate for top shelf lawn care and maintenance from professionals. And third, it removes any scheduling or service irregularity from your mind. You know that when you are on a monthly plan with Canopy that we’ve got your lawn covered.
How do you price your subscriptions?
We estimate the time and materials it will take to properly service your property based on lawn size, landscape bed size, and your leaf clean up needs for the year, then divide that amount by 12 to give you a convenient, flat monthly rate.
How often will you service my lawn on the PremierLawn™ plan?
We will average 67 property visits and services over the course of the calendar year, or about once every 5 days. Visits includes landscape maintenance like bed and hard surface clean up as well as turf care in the form of weed control, fertilization, and annual aeration and seeding. In the growing season we will be visiting weekly, and then a little less frequently in the winter when your property doesn’t need quite as much attention. We’ll also visit monthly to provide pruning and regular tree and shrub care, as well as disease and insect monitoring on your property.
During the process of aeration, can underground utility lines be struck?
In most cases underground utility lines are buried deep enough that aeration will not strike them. However, your cable and phone lines in particular are not always buried deep enough and can be struck. There are ways to mark your yards to prevent this from happening. We highly recommend marking any dog fence or sprinkler head with marker flags prior to the service.
How do I know if my yard needs to be aerated?
Any yard can benefit from aeration. Any areas of high traffic that look worn, yards that don’t green up after fertilizing, brown easily in high heat conditions, yards with poor drainage that have standing water after it rains, and homes built on poor subsoil with clay are all excellent reasons to aerate your yard.
How often should my lawn be aerated?
We recommend aerating once a year in the spring (March–May) for warm season lawns and in the fall (August–November) for cool season lawns.
What do I need to do to prepare my lawn for aeration and over-seeding?
Mowing your lawn at least one week before aeration and over-seeding is recommended but not imperative. Getting good seed-to-soil contact is key, and a lower grass blade during the time of seeding helps in this process. In addition, mowing prior to seeding will help keep grass lower as seed germinates until the first cut after seeding.
How long will it take for the cores in my yard to disappear?
It usually takes around two weeks for the cores to break down. It can, however, be longer or shorter depending on weather conditions. Mowing can also expedite core breakdown. You do not want to rake or pick up the cores, as this will reduce the effectiveness of the aeration.
When is the best time of day to water my grass?
The best time of day to water your lawn is in the early morning. Moisture is able to reach the roots, while the leaf surfaces are able to become dry. Watering at night or late in the evening creates a very humid environment and should be avoided. The excessive moisture, combined with high, humid summer night temperatures, are conditions optimal for severe disease problems.
How do I care for my lawn after it has been aerated and over-seeded?
Watering is critical for new seed to germinate and grow. During the first couple of months you want the ground to remain moist from natural rainfall or irrigation. The condition of your lawn (sun, shade, flat or hilly), as well as soil conditions, plays a significant role when determining how often to water. The key is to keep the soil moist without washing seed away.
Why combine Aeration with Over-seeding?
Holes created by the aeration process allow good seed-to-soil contact. This creates a healthier environment for germination (the process of a seed becoming a plant).
Why is warm season aeration service scheduled during the late spring season?
We aerate warm season lawns during the late spring and early summer after the turf has had enough time to return from dormancy and get properly established.
Why is cool season aeration service scheduled during the fall season?
Temperatures are optimal in the autumn months for seed germination and establishment. The intense summer temperatures have passed, there is less competition from annual grassy weeds such as crabgrass, and soil temperatures are warm enough for continued growth of the grass. In preparation for winter, grasses begin to store nutrients that will not only allow them to survive the cold winter months, but enable them to develop a healthy root system to support new shoot growth once the temperatures resume in the spring.
What will Aeration Service do for my lawn?
Core aeration is a beneficial service that removes small cores of soil and allows the grass plant access to more water and oxygen for the root system. This process will also help in the repair of bare and thinning areas of your turf.
Is this service for both warm season and cool season grass?
We aerate both warm and cool season lawns, however over-seeding service is only for cool season fescue lawns, which includes over-seeding with fescue grass seed. Warm season aeration takes place in the late spring/early summer and does not include over-seeding.
What if we are in a drought?
We will continue to service your property. However, we will not mow your turf if it is under extreme stress. We will continue to treat any weeds, until the daytime temperature reaches 90 degrees.
What are grubs?
Grubs are white larvae of beetles that feed on the roots of the turfgrass system. If you suspect damage from white grubs, your turf will show signs of wilting and brown patches. It will also easily peel away from the soil or feel spongy under foot. If you suspect grub damage on your property, please call Canopy and we will be happy to discuss a plan. As always, we will inspect for any potential damaging activity during our visits.

We guarantee 100% satisfaction for our customers. We will do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy with the service you receive. If you are not happy with the service you received, we will do everything in our power to make it right. If you are still unsatisfied with our work, we will refund the amount of your last visit. It’s that simple!

How much water does my lawn need?
We recommend you water at a minimum, 20 minutes a zone. This is to promote a strong root system. You should water early in the morning during the summer months, once or twice a week to supply adequate water to the system. If you're unsure, a good rule of thumb is that your lawn should 1" of water perweek. However, when your turf is dormant, you should lightly water to prevent the large areas drying out and possibly dying.
What if it rains?
We work diligently to complete all services on your scheduled day. If we do have a rain event that leads to a rescheduling, you will be notified via email and/or text. This notification will let you know your new service day.
Who will be servicing my property?
Your Canopy Pro is a full time Canopy Lawn Care team member that has completed rigorous company training and continuing education through our own Canopy University.
How do I know my lawn is being mowed at the proper height?
We follow horticultural best practices for each type of turf in our service areas: All Bermudagrass – 2.5″ or as low as our mowers will go, Centipede and Zoysiagrass – 2.5″ or as low as our mowers will go, Tall Fescue: 3.5″-4.5″. We will avoid scalping the turf. This will damage the crown, which is the main growing point of the plant and we mulch your grass clippings, as this helps return nutrients to the turfgrass system.
What is an uncontrollable weed?
Not all weeds are easy to control and some require multiple applications. Grassy weeds are difficult to control unless a non-selective or special herbicide is applied. Unfortunately, this application can damage desirable turf grasses. Certain broadleaf weeds are more difficult to control and may require multiple applications. Also, some weed control may require a different strategy. We will be happy to discuss specific treatment plans should the need arise.
What if it rains?
Moisture certainly helps the turf and any fertilizer that was applied. If your property was treated for weeds, please wait 10-14 days. If you see no twisting or curling of the weed, give Canopy a call and we’ll treat again.
Are the products applied to my property safe?
Canopy Lawn Care only applies products to your property that are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency – this is a law and all products will be applied according to the product label.
Does every visit include both fertilizer and weed control?
Each visit is seasonally customized to what your lawn needs for that time of year. Some visits will consist of both fertilizer and weed control, while others will only include one treatment.
Do I need to be home for this service?
There is no need for you to be home while your lawn is serviced as all of the work takes place outside your home.
What do I need to do in preparation for this service?
We ask that you clear your lawn of any toys, furniture, or other items on scheduled days. As well as unlock any gates/access points, and keep your pets inside.
